Pilot Line
The symbolic cornerstone marking the official start of construction of Schmid Pilot Production GmbH (SPP) at the Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park in Spreetal, Saxony, Germany, was laid by SPP managing partner Christian Schmid on October 15, 2008.
Schmid Silicon Technology GmbH (SST) headquartered in Freudenstadt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is building a state-of-the-art pilot plant for producing monosilane and polysilicon on a site about 10,000 m² in size at the Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park. The total investment volume of this project is about 49 million euros. SPP will have an annual capacity of approximately 540 tonnes monosilane. This monosilane will be used in highly efficient pyrolytic reactors of the latest state of the art technology to obtain high-quality polysilicon dedicated to the photovoltaics market. In addition to the full profitable production, the pilot line is as well research and development center. In this worldwide unique pilot line for the polysilicon production, forward looking technologies can be developed and enhanced. Schmid Silicon Technology has the opportunity to generate important Know How during the ongoing development process. SST can offer the training of key employees of the customers.
In 2011 the pilot line is ready for production start. On June, 12th 2011 First Silicon Out was annonced!

Compared to the conventional Siemens technology, the monosilane technology of Schmid Silicon Technology offers enormous cost advantages due to a fine-tuned structure of the individual process steps. Yet the potential harbored by this technology is still far from having been fully exploited. SST is already working on new technologies capable of revolutionizing the photovoltaics market.
